Shredders
Government figures show that fraud identity costs the UK economy over £1 billion annually, and over 4.3 million people have already fallen victim.
To ensure you don’t become a victim of identity fraud it is vital that you make shredding part of your everyday life.
There are two types of shredder:
- Strip cut shredders will tear the paper into long strips. This is considered to be the minimum security level.
- Cross cut shredders will shred the documents in both directions creating a more compact waste which significantly reduces the bulk of the waste so the bin needs emptying less often.
You must also consider how what you intend to shred and how secure the waste must be which you produce.
When selecting a shredder you need to consider the following:
- Security level of the waste. There are 4 levels of security, 2 - everyday, 3 - medium, 4 - high and 5 - top secret.
- Waste bin capacity – if the shredder is to be used by multiple uses a larger waste bin is advised.
- Usage – the entry level shredders are for home office use, where the larger shredders can cope with whole departmental usage throughout the day.
